State Fire Chiefs Bestow Presidential Achievement Awards
Senator Joseph Griffo, Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, and Firefighter Sean Patrick O'Gorman (City of Oswego Fire Department) were honored recently at the NYSAFC 112th Annual Conference & FIRE 2018 Expo.
The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC) recently honored New York State Senator Joseph Griffo, New York State Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, and Firefighter Sean Patrick O'Gorman (City of Oswego Fire Department) with the association's Presidential Achievement Award. Recipients were recognized on June 14, 2018, during the association's 112th Annual Conference & FIRE 2018 Expo at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
This award is presented upon the recommendation of the NYSAFC president. It is intended to recognize special achievement that benefits the fire service or demonstrates outstanding effort by a chief, past chief, officer, or firefighter that goes above and beyond the normal course of duty.
Senator Griffo and Assemblyman Brindisi, both of Oneida County, were recognized for their support of the New York state fire service and their tireless efforts to ensure passage of the New York State Volunteer Firefighter Gap Coverage Cancer Disability Benefits Act, which Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law on October 22, 2017. This law will provide much needed benefits to qualified volunteer firefighters who contract certain types of cancer.
Firefighter O'Gorman was recognized for his bravery and heroic efforts in an off-duty rescue while vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina earlier this year. O'Gorman noticed three teenage girls caught in a rip current and utilized his skills and training in swift water rescue to safely bring the girls to shore. O'Gorman is a 17-year member of the City of Oswego Fire Department.
Congratulations to the 2018 recipients of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Presidential Achievement Awards
