New York State Fire Service Alliance 2026 Advocacy Day in Albany

On March 11, 2026, members of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York, and County Fire Coordinators' Association of the State of New York participated in the New York State Fire Service Alliance Advocacy Day in Albany.

On March 11, 2026, members of NYSAFC, AFDSNY, and County Fire Coordinators traveled to Albany to participate in the New York State Fire Service Alliance Advocacy Day.

Approximately 40 members of the associations met with their New York State Senate and Assembly representatives to make them aware of the critical issues impacting the fire and emergency medical services that are included in the Issues of United Concern legislative agenda. This joint legislative agenda was adopted on December 6, 2025, and the identified priorities are to be advocated for through mutual efforts.

Senator Monica Martinez, pictured below, met with members to discuss her legislation to enhance tax benefits for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel. Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, pictured below on March 4, joined delegates to discuss her legislation to allow fire districts and departments to offer modest compensation to volunteer firefighters to support recruitment, retention, and staffing.

Thank you to everyone who took time to participate in this productive event. Thank you also to those who have participated in the coalition's recent news conferences addressing nominal compensation for volunteer firefighters.
