Tom Bierds, longtime NYSAFC Rockland County regional representative, passed away on October 28, 2024.

NYSAFC remembers Thomas W. Bierds, Rockland County regional representative, who passed away on October 28, 2024.

Bierds was an active member and ex-chief of the Knickerbocker Fire Engine Company #1 – Rockland Lake Fire Department, where he served for more than 30 years. He was also an honorary member of the Congers Fire Department, where he previously served for many years, and was a longtime instructor at the Rockland County Fire Training Center. Bierds was a director and past president (1980) of the Rockland County Volunteer Firefighters' Association, a past director of the Hudson Valley Firefighters Association, a trustee of the NJ/NY Firefighters Association, and a retired communications officer with the Rockland County Sheriff's Office.

He was a life member of NYSAFC who joined the association in 1972 and was honored as the 2004 recipient of NYSAFC's Chief Fred W. Singer Fire Educator of the Year Award in recognition of his dedication to fire service training and education. Since 1988, Bierds was one of NYSAFC's most active regional reps, always encouraging participation in association conferences, seminars, training, and other programs. A skilled photographer, he also volunteered his time taking pictures of NYSAFC Hands-On Training and other events.

Our condolences to Tom's family, friends, and colleagues.
