NYSAFC Mourns the Loss of Past President Raymond White

Chief (Ret.) Raymond J. White of the Scarsdale Fire Department (Westchester County) passed away on September 4, 2023. He led the association as president from 1981-1982.
Retired Chief Raymond J. White of the Scarsdale Fire Department (Westchester County) passed away on September 4, 2023. He served as NYSAFC president from 1981-1982.
White began his fire service career in 1950 as a volunteer firefighter. He served with the White Plains Fire Department as a career firefighter from 1955-1956 and joined the Scarsdale Fire Department as a career firefighter in 1956. White was promoted to captain in 1966 and was chief of department from 1967 until his retirement in 1991.
During his career, White served as secretary of Local 1394 of the International Association of Fire Fighters for six years and was a past member of numerous Westchester County firematic organizations.
A member of NYSAFC since 1967, White served as a member and chairman of the Legislative Committee before joining the board of directors in 1973. During his tenure as president, NYSAFC formally established the Ward & Janice Bohner Scholarship Program to provide tuition assistance to association members and their families. White was actively involved in the association's advocacy for fire prevention through enhanced fire safety standards and code enforcement.
White served with the National Guard 7th Regiment 107th Infantry for three years and the United States Marine Corps 1st Marine Air Wing Fighter Squadron from 1952-1954.
