Suffolk County Fire Academy Thermal Imaging Camera Class – “The TIC”

$175 per person (includes ticket for entry to the expo)
No course prerequisites. Maximum 20 students per session.
PPE Requirements:
Full structural firefighting PPE, SCBA, and facepiece. It is recommended that each student or group of students brings a TIC from their own department so they can train with the actual equipment that will be used on the fireground. TICs will also be available for use.
Course Details:
This course will provide students with a basic understanding of thermal imaging and the TIC’s usefulness as a fire service tool. Thermal imaging theory and camera tactics will be reviewed and demonstrated. The benefits of using a TIC on the fireground will be addressed, along with the detriments of over reliance. Following a lecture, students will be given the opportunity to use a TIC in a live fire environment to reinforce lessons learned. NYSAFC’s mobile training unit will be utilized outside of Nassau Coliseum for training. Note – this class is the same program delivered at the academy. It will be presented by academy and NYSAFC instructors.
Instructors:
The Suffolk County Fire Academy is the exclusive fire and emergency training facility in Suffolk County, NY. Personnel from the 109 volunteer fire departments within the county, along with other private and public emergency response agencies, attend classes, courses, and field drills at the academy amounting to over 11,000 students trained annually. The staff includes approximately 80 per diem instructors and support personnel. The academy’s instructors are among the most experienced and qualified in the country, boasting hundreds of years of combined service in volunteer and career fire and emergency service response organizations
