The Suffolk County Fire Academy will present a hybrid vehicle extrication hands-on training class at the 2025 Long Island Metro Fire/EMS Expo! Fire academy instructors will first review basic techniques used during vehicle extrication incidents, including size up, vehicle stabilization, equipment selection, victim access, extrication tactics, and victim removal. Discussion will then move into specific considerations when faced with victims trapped in hybrid vehicles – a segment of the vehicle industry that saw a 53% increase in sales in 2023. Finally, students will be guided in the use of various battery-operated extrication tools to disassemble actual hybrid vehicles.
