Registration Fee: $200 per day, per person

This training, coordinated each year by the NYSAFC Codes Committee, provides the opportunity to earn 16 hours (8 per day) through code enforcement in-service approved courses. Registration fee includes training, light breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and new for 2025 – Conference Full Term Registration (a four-day pass for entry to the expo and designated classes). Students can register for training on one or both days.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4 COURSE SCHEDULE

8:00 – 10:00 a.m.


“Battery Emergencies and Electric Storage Systems”
2 Hours – Professional Development Elective
This course provides information on the dangers associated with lithium-ion battery emergencies. Students will be given knowledge on the uses, construction, and hazards associated with lithium-ion battery storage systems.     

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

“Community Risk Reduction”
2 Hours – Professional Development Elective
This session is designed for fire chiefs, chief officers, officers, and all fire department staff who want to make CRR a personal and integral part of their daily responsibilities.  We’ll explore practical strategies for engaging staff and shifting department culture to prioritize risk reduction at every level. By understanding the core principles of CRR, attendees will learn how to move beyond treating it as just another task and instead incorporate it into their routines and decision-making processes.

“Chapter 31 – Tents, Temporary Special Event Structures, and other Membrane Structures”

The goal of this course is to familiarize building officials, fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, and others in the construction industry with common terminology regarding the types of tents, as well as important inspection items for proper and code compliant installations.

THURSDAY, JUNE 5 COURSE SCHEDULE

8:00 – 9:00 a.m.    

"New York State Building Construction"
Course Code #TO2-07-3055 (Topic 0-2-0)
This continuing education session reviews building construction, types, the difference between combustible versus non-combustible, live loads versus dead loads, and contrasting the different types of constructions.  The program will also address building construction features and the impact on firefighting, and demonstrate the importance of understanding a building’s construction and the spread of a fire through a building.

9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

"Fire Extinguishing Systems"
Course Code # TO2-07-3175 (Topic 0-2-0)
This course covers carbon dioxide suppression systems, water misting systems, and finishes with commercial cooking systems. The code enforcement official must have an understanding of NFPA standards for these systems. Another topic discussed is NFPA 25 – system maintenance and testing of these systems and how they limit or extinguish fires.

“Fire Sprinkler and Standpipe”

The presentation reviews the three different types of standpipe systems, where we find them, and the code requirements for them.  After this presentation, the code official will develop an appreciation of the importance of properly working sprinkler and standpipe systems.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Codes Training registration cancellations must be submitted in writing to NYSAFC. A service fee of 25% will be applied. Badges/tickets, if issued, must be returned with the letter of cancellation to receive a refund. The deadline for requesting a refund is July 7, 2025. Hotel cancellation policies may apply. NYSAFC does not assume responsibility for canceling hotel reservations.
