Director Michael J. Volpe

Chief Michael J. Volpe, EMT-P has been a member of the Busti Fire Department since 1991. He served as fire chief from 2011-2017 and 2000-2002. Volpe currently serves as the chief of EMS operations for the Chautauqua Fire District #1. He is a past employee of the Chautauqua County Office of Emergency Services, where he served as the senior paramedic from 2017-2019, and he also held the position of 3rd battalion fire coordinator from 2002-2010. Volpe is employed as a  paramedic by EmergyCare Ambulance Service, the largest commercial EMS provider in northwestern Pennsylvania. He previously served as a flight paramedic with Stat Medevac and Starflight Medevac of Jamestown, NY, and he has worked in various supervisory capacities in the EMS systems of both western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. Volpe currently holds dual certification as a paramedic in New York and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Chautauqua County Emergency Medical Services Council and previously served two terms as chairman. Volpe is also a member of the Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs Association. A member of NYSAFC since 2000, Volpe was named a Chautauqua County regional representative in 2005 and was appointed to the EMS Committee in 2008 before serving as the board EMS director from 2014-2020. He began serving on the board as a volunteer director in 2020.
