NYSAFC Mourns the Loss of Past Director George Rivers

Past Chief George A. Rivers of the Rouses Point Fire Department (Clinton County) passed away on May 24, 2024. He served the association as a member of the board of directors from 2005-2014.

Past Chief George A. Rivers of the Rouses Point Fire Department (Clinton County) passed away on May 24, 2024. He served as a director on the association board of directors from 2005-2014.

Rivers joined the Rouses Point Fire Department in 1956 and led the department as chief from 1972-1992. He also served as Battalion 3 deputy coordinator for Clinton County from 1970-2005 and was president of the Clinton County Firefighters Association from 1970-1971.

A life member of NYSAFC, Rivers joined the association in 1967. Prior to being elected to the board, he served on the Conference Committee from 1984-2005, on the Long Range Planning Committee from 1983-1984, and as a regional representative from 1979-2005.

An active member of his community, Rivers served as mayor of the village of Rouses Point from 1997-2012. He was a United States Army veteran.
