NYSAFC Mourns the Loss of Past President William J. McMahon

McMahon, retired chief of the White Plains Fire Department, led the association from 1989-1990. He passed away on January 30, 2017.

William J. McMahon Jr., who served as president of NYSAFC, passed away on January 30, 2017.  He was a retired chief with the White Plains Fire Department in Westchester County.

McMahon was appointed to the White Plains Fire Department in June 1951 and achieved the ranks of lieutenant and deputy chief before being promoted to chief of the department on April 4, 1977. He retired in March 1986.

A member of NYSAFC since 1974, McMahon served on the Paid Chiefs Committee before being elected to the board of directors in 1979. He led the association as president from 1989-1990. During his tenure, McMahon was diligent in efforts to promote legislation requiring sprinkler systems in new construction.

McMahon was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Navy.
