NYSAFC Mourns the Loss of Past President Paul Schonewolf

Commissioner (Ret.) Paul F. Schonewolf, life member of Niskayuna Fire District #1 and member of the North Queensbury Fire Department, led the association as president from 2005-2006.
Commissioner (Ret.) Paul F. Schonewolf passed away on October 18, 2022. He served as president of NYSAFC from 2005-2006.
Schonewolf was a 43-year member of the Niskayuna Fire District #1 Grand Boulevard Fire Company (Schenectady County). He served for 20 years as an elected fire commissioner of the Niskayuna Fire District #1, including 10 years as board chairman. In 1979, he secured funding, support, and equipment to create the county's first and New York state's second fire department paramedic unit. Schonewolf was also a member of the North Queensbury Fire Department (Warren County).
Schonewolf served on Schenectady County's 911 Advisory Committee, which originated 911 service in the county. He also served as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Region planning committee. Schonewolf was also a town councilman for four years, overseeing public safety for the town of Niskayuna.
A member of NYSAFC since 1976, Schonewolf served as a member and chairman of the Communications Committee prior to joining the board of directors in 1995.
