NYSAFC 2021 Seminar Series “The ABCs of Rescue Company Operations”
With Lieutenant Paul Haynes, Syracuse Fire Department

Three-Hour Seminar:

This seminar will cover rescue company operations from the front seat of your first due engine or truck. While heavy rescues aren’t as prevalent in the fire service today, crews respond to more technical rescues than ever before. All the tasks performed by the first due apparatus at incidents such as structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, confined space rescue, trench rescue, water rescue, and building collapse are managed from the front seat. Having a starting point, such as riding positions, the availability of tools and equipment, and knowledge of the experience level of personnel, will dictate your response to these alarms. Upon arrival, the officer of the first due apparatus needs to perform that critical size up to confirm dispatch information in order to approach these alarms successfully. This program will review the officer’s responsibilities before, during, and after a rescue-related response.

Instructor Paul Haynes:
Lieutenant Paul Haynes is assigned to Rescue Company 1 of the Syracuse Fire Department. He has been with the department for 18 years, and also has volunteered with the East Syracuse Fire Department. Haynes is a New York state fire instructor at the New York State Academy of Fire Science with the RFFT program and a NYSAFC Hands-On Training instructor.
