Director Bernard J. Lee

Chief Bernard J. (Barney) Lee began his service as a volunteer with the Kill Buck Volunteer Fire Department in 1980. He then joined the Salamanca Volunteer Fire Department in 1985 and was hired by the City of Salamanca Fire Department in 1989, retiring in 2011. Lee held the rank of assistant chief from 1991-1996 and again from 2003-2006. From 2006 until his retirement he was assistant chief/code enforcement/zoning officer. Lee held the rank of fire chief from 1996-2003. In 2005, the city of Salamanca was awarded a SAFER grant in the amount of $595,410. The grant, one of two awarded that year in New York state, was written by Lee. He is a nationally certified fire instructor and has served as an adjunct instructor at Jamestown Community College. Lee joined NYSAFC in 2000 and served on the Paid Chiefs Committee from 2000-2005 and on the Conference Committee from 2005-2015. He is also a past member of the New York State Fire Marshals & Inspectors Association, International Code Council, and International Association of Firefighters. In 2003, Lee served as the project coordinator for Cattaraugus County Emergency Services in the rewriting of the County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
