Past President Joseph M. Fahd Jr.
Chief Joseph M. Fahd’s career in the fire service began 51 years ago with the City of Albany Fire Department. He joined the ranks of the department in 1966 as a firefighter, and then began his journey through the ranks, becoming lieutenant in 1974, captain in 1982, and deputy chief in 1994. Fahd retired from the department in 2002 after 35 years of dedicated service. He became chief of the Cohoes Fire Department in 2003 and continues to serve in this position today. Fahd has served in many capacities with various organizations related to the fire and emergency medical services. He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and was recently elected the 2nd vice president of the Eastern Division of IAFC. Fahd serves on the Governor’s Fire Advisory Board of the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. He also serves as the chief deputy in the Office of the Albany County Fire Coordinator, a position he has held for over 20 years. Fahd obtained an associate’s degree in fire science from Corning Community College and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy, where he completed the Executive Fire Officer Program. He was recently awarded Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing. In 2012, Fahd was named Career Fire Chief of the Year by NYSAFC. A life member of NYSAFC who joined the association in 1978, Fahd served as president from 2016-2017. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife of 48 years and following his children, granddaughters, and great granddaughter through life’s adventures.
